ICE SKATING INSTRUCTOR - JOB DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Rink Manager and Assistant Manager. Skating instructors are responsible for teaching the technical aspect of skating and assisting in the completion of daily tasks designed to ensure and maintain a safe and welcoming environment. This is part-time seasonal employment, mid November through mid February. 

 

SALARY

$17.00-$22.00 per hour. Depending on experience. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Skate Instructors may not be required to perform all the duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • To teach the technical aspect of skating and to ensure that ice skating at the Siskiyou Ice Rink is enjoyable and rewarding for all.
  • Responsible for class set up and clean up. 
  • Greet patrons and guests with enthusiasm and great customer service. 
  • Communicate with skaters, fellow rink staff and supervisors
  • Educate patrons about facility rules and policies and enforce facility rules on and off the ice for patrons’ enjoyment and safety
  • Provide basic first aid to skaters and notify the supervisor of accidents as needed.
  • Maintain the ice surface free of debris or obstacles that may represent a hazard to skaters.
  • Perform other duties assigned by managers

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience as an instructor in skating or other recreational activity is preferred. 
  • Able to work well with youth and adults in group and one-on-one settings. 
  • Must possess current knowledge and understanding of ice skating fundamentals. 
  • Skating Instructors are responsible for teaching participants how to skate. This includes supervising participants on the ice, demonstrating skating skills, planning lessons and evaluating participant skills.
  • Ability to ice skate and assist skaters of all levels, abilities and ages.
  • Requires long periods of ice skating and standing on skates giving instruction
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Must have reliable transportation 
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

  • The estimated working positions will be standing, walking, and sitting approximately 90% of the time.
  • Occasionally climbing stairs, ladders, and crawling.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and stretching, kneeling and squatting.
  • Some bending and occasional work on rough, uneven terrain.
  • Occasional handling and dexterity.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying abilities under 75 pounds.
  • Reasonable accommodations provided.

 

MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND FINGERPRINTING

•   If required, individuals must pass the District pre-employment medical examination.

•   Individuals must be fingerprinted and meet legal requirements to work as a supervisor or disciplinary authority over minors.
